KUALA LUMPUR FASHION WEEK 2017

Hey everyone! It’s been a while since I sat down to write, and I’ve been all over the place these past few months (as you might have seen on my socials). I know I’m a little late to the party with my thoughts on KLFW 2017, but hey, better late than never, right?

Unlike the typical event reviews you find online, I’m skipping the fashion critiques and trend analysis. Honestly, you can find all that on countless other websites. Instead, I want to dive into the event coordination, the vibe, and what made KLFW 2017 stand out.

The Inclusive Spirit of KLFW

First, I have to thank my amazing friends in Kuala Lumpur who got me into the shows. I was fortunate enough to snag an all-access pass for a day—something I don’t take lightly! For those who may not know, KLFW is an invite-only event, so you can’t simply buy a ticket and walk in. That said, the event still manages to be incredibly inclusive.

Held at the main atrium of Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, the setup allows anyone and everyone to catch a glimpse of the runway, all the way up to the fifth floor of the mall. Now that’s what I call inclusive publicity! Even if you’re not seated close to the action, you can still feel like a part of the event. This openness is something I absolutely adore.

The #IAMHOMEGROWN tagline encapsulates this spirit beautifully. KLFW is all about supporting local designers, providing them with a platform to showcase their talent while inviting the public to share in the experience. It’s a refreshing take on exclusivity that makes the event accessible without losing its charm.

Behind the Scenes Brilliance

Kudos to Andrews Models and Fashion Valet for pulling off such a well-coordinated event. Their collaboration resulted in a seamless experience, blending exclusivity with inclusivity. I’m particularly impressed with the introduction of the AirAsia Designer Search this year, which brought together talent from across ASEAN countries.

Rumor has it that they’re already brainstorming new ideas and segments for next year. Talk about forward-thinking! It’s no wonder these people are successful—they’re entrepreneurs at heart, always ready to move on to the next big thing.

A Tiny Flaw Amid Perfection

While the event was nearly flawless, one aspect left a sour taste: latecomers. Picture this: the first model is halfway down the runway, and people are still strolling in, trying to find their seats. Worse still, some attendees showed up after the designer they were invited by had already showcased their collection.

To me, this felt disrespectful—not just to the designers but to the entire event. If you’re going to be that late, maybe reconsider attending? Just saying.

Final Thoughts

Despite the hiccups, I thoroughly enjoyed KLFW 2017 and look forward to what the future holds for this incredible event. Here’s hoping I’ll still be on the invite list after this honest review (wink wink).

To anyone who hasn’t experienced KLFW yet, make it a point to drop by, even if it’s just to soak in the atmosphere. Trust me, the energy is unmatched, and you’ll walk away feeling inspired.

Until next time,
Ciao Bella.
