GLAMPING – DAYLESFORD, VICTORIA
As someone who enjoys the finer things in life—designer labels and luxurious hotels—I’ve often been called superficial. However, there’s another side of me that craves nature: the solitude, the fresh air, and the serenity of a crackling fire in the great outdoors. This trip marked my first real glamping experience in years, this time in a foreign country. (Okay, technically my second, if you count my birthday camping trip in Sabah.)
The Journey: Luxury Meets Adventure
What better way to begin a glamping adventure than in a chauffeured vehicle? Even better, an Audi Q7—spacious, sleek, and equipped with dual sunroofs that let in the cool summer breeze of Melbourne. Our driver skillfully navigated the beast of an SUV to our destination, despite a few navigational hiccups on the final gravel road stretch. Admittedly, I dozed off for part of the journey, waking up refreshed and ready to embrace the wilderness.
The Campsite: Kanga Track, Yandoit
Our destination was Kanga Track, nestled deep in Victoria’s countryside, about a two-hour drive from Melbourne. Located just 15 minutes from Daylesford, the spa capital of Australia, the campsite’s remote setting offers a tranquil escape.
Arriving felt like stepping into a picture-perfect screensaver. Surrounded by untouched natural beauty, the site felt secluded, with only one other couple sharing the space. The campsite, managed by Jarek and his partner Eva, is relatively new. They split their time between this serene location and their more established site in Blackwood, making this a truly exclusive retreat.
The Experience: Luxury in the Wilderness
Forget packing a heavy backpack; this campsite provides everything you need. The spacious canvas tents are beautifully furnished, featuring:
A queen-sized bed with luxury linens
Bedside tables and cozy seating
Solar electricity and a Bluetooth speaker system
Cooking facilities are available, so consider bringing steaks or salmon to grill over the campfire. Alternatively, stock up on gourmet food in Daylesford and perhaps treat yourself to a spa session while you’re there. Essentials like bath towels, soap, and shampoo are provided, making it easy to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings.
Nature’s Magic
Evenings at the campsite are magical. Kangaroos roam freely, the moonlight illuminates the darkness, and the stars—countless and brilliant—feel close enough to touch. It's just you, your thoughts, and the gentle hum of the breeze.
For a seamless morning, opt for the Brekkie Box, a delicious and hassle-free way to start your day. Whether you stay for a night or two, glamping here is an unforgettable experience. Bring friends, unwind, and immerse yourself in the peaceful beauty of the Australian wilderness.
