Silverfox Experience

13th August 2013

The day I stepped into Silverfox Studios for my third job interview was pivotal. After two previous interviews at other companies with less-than-ideal offers, I was hoping Silverfox would be the right place to start my career. I had been feeling somewhat lost after my university application was rejected, unsure of my next steps. Fortunately, my former lecturer from Singapore Polytechnic, Mr. Christopher Goh, played an instrumental role in guiding me during this uncertain period. As the Course Manager and Senior Lecturer for the Diploma in Interior Design, he understood my situation, especially since I had just completed my national service. He encouraged me to explore industry opportunities and recommended Silverfox Studios as a promising place to begin.

That recommendation turned out to be invaluable. My interview with Patrick and Susan went well, and despite a modest starting wage, I was thrilled to join the company. It was clear from our conversation that they saw potential in me, even as I explained that my skills with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software were a bit rusty after a long hiatus. Their belief in my ability to pick things up quickly was motivating, and I was eager to prove myself.

My first day at Silverfox Studios was marked by excitement and anticipation. I was assigned to work alongside Jolina, a colleague who would guide me through the first few months of my design career. From day one, I made it a point to be punctual, showing up early each day and rarely leaving on time. The workload was intense, but I was determined to keep up with the fast pace.

Though challenging, the work environment at Silverfox Studios was unique. It was a diverse, multicultural team, with colleagues from the Philippines, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, and a few locals. This made for a welcoming and collaborative atmosphere where everyone was approachable and supportive, which eased my transition into the professional world.

As the months went by, I noticed that the high-pressure environment was not for everyone. I saw several colleagues move on, possibly due to the workload demands. However, these challenges didn’t deter me. I remained focused on my work and committed to learning as much as possible, viewing each project as an opportunity to build my experience. It was a journey that, while not always easy, helped me grow both personally and professionally.

As I approached my one-year anniversary at Silverfox Studios, I found myself managing multiple projects independently. The company had placed its trust in me, providing small but significant opportunities to expand my skill set and broaden my responsibilities. Of course, I was never alone in this; I was fortunate to receive guidance and support from my colleagues along the way.

Looking back, I can see how far I’ve come. The disappointment of not getting into university has faded, though not entirely. I now understand the importance of balancing formal education with practical experience. My time at Silverfox Studios has taught me that every journey is unique, and while my path may not have followed the traditional route, it is the one that is shaping my future.

"Your journey will not be the same as others. The route to success is yours to find. No two journeys are the same. Keep looking, keep striving, and keep moving, and you will find your way." – AA

In conclusion, my first year at Silverfox Studios has been filled with growth, challenges, and invaluable experiences. While there have been tough moments, the overall journey has been fulfilling. As I look ahead, I’m eager to continue learning, growing, and pushing myself to new heights in the design industry.
