NICHOLAS SEAFOOD – SYDNEY FISH MARKET

If you’re craving fish, crabs, lobsters, prawns—just about any seafood you can think of—you’ll find it at Sydney Fish Market, especially at Nicholas Seafood. From freshly caught marine delicacies to deep-fried, ready-to-eat options, they have it all under one roof.

A bit about the Sydney Fish Market (SFM): it’s Australia’s premier destination for fresh seafood, offering an unmatched selection from six wet fish retailers. Open every day except Christmas, it’s the perfect spot to savor some fresh, crispy seafood by the pier or on the seating deck along Blackwattle Bay. The market also features an array of restaurants, cafes, bakeries, a gourmet deli, bottle shop, butcher, green grocer, fishing supplies store, and even a gift shop—creating a full retail experience for the whole family!

Nicholas Seafood was our top choice (pre-approved by our Australian native friend), and it did not disappoint—otherwise, you wouldn’t be reading this! The seafood variety is so impressive that you’ll want to sample everything from their ‘canteen-style’ buffet. My bento box was filled with soft shell crab, a generous slice of salmon, calamari, and even a scallop.

Aside from the selection, the prices were surprisingly reasonable, especially given the fresh quality of the seafood. Prices ranging from AUD$20-30 are well within reach, and for the quality you get, it’s a fantastic deal.

We took our time savoring our seafood bento, and I highly recommend coming with an empty stomach! With the cool bay breeze and the faint aroma of freshly caught fish as local fishermen bring in their daily haul, the experience is truly unbeatable. Make sure to drop by and give it a try when you’re in Sydney—it’s an experience worth savoring!
